Chromebook Acceptable Use Policy (Gr. 3-8)

Chromebook Acceptable Use Policy

  • The continuing goal of our Chromebook acquisition is to enhance technology integration in the classroom and provide students with ongoing opportunities to access the multitude of resources available on the Internet to enrich their educational experiences and prepare them for gaining skills necessary for the future. Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School is continuing our one-to- one program in grades 3-8 in which each student in that grade will receive a personal device to use during the school day. In order for students to take advantage of this innovative technology tool, students and parents must sign and return this agreement.

  • PARENT(S)/GUARDIAN AGREEMENT I am the parent/guardian of a Saints Peter and Paul (SSPP) student and agree to utilize the Chromebook device that is being issued to my child for use during the school year. I understand and agree that it is my responsibility to encourage my child to use his or her device responsibly and to help him/her understand that its use in school should be strictly limited to supporting his/her education at SSPP. I understand that use of the Chromebook at school is a privilege that can be revoked by SSPP at any time if my child does not follow the guidelines stated below. I agree not to hold Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School, including its representatives and employees, responsible for any inappropriate use of, or intentional damage or destruction to the device.
By signing this agreement, I agree to further discuss with my child the standards that should be followed with the use of the Internet, just as with other media information sources.

  • STUDENT AGREEMENT I am an SSPP student who is requesting use of my assigned Chromebook at school. I agree that it is my responsibility to follow all established guidelines for use of this device, which were developed to ensure that the Chromebook enhances my overall learning experience and does not disrupt the educational process. I understand that use of this device at school is a privilege and not a right and that the privilege can be revoked by SSPP at any time if I do not follow the guidelines stated below.

    • The assigned Chromebook remains the property of the school, and it is assigned to me to use during the school year. I will have it fully charged at the beginning of each school day and carry it around in its case.

    • The use of my Chromebook in the educational program during the school day is at the discretion of the teaching staff member responsible for supervising and/or providing my instructional program. The teaching staff member may approve the use of this device based on the daily assignment(s). He/She may also prohibit the use of this device for any assignment(s).

    • I will not personalize the Chromebook in any way and understand that it must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers or labels that are not the property of SSPP.

    • The screen saver, background photo, or Google background must not be changed by individual students. Personal passwords, besides your student assigned login, to lock the Chromebooks are not to be used.

    • I understand that I am responsible for the proper care of this device while I use this equipment. I acknowledge that the screen is sensitive to damage from excessive pressure or rough treatment. I will handle the device with care and be sure that the cover is closed carefully when not in use. I will only use a clean, soft cloth to clean the screen when needed, no cleansers of any type will be utilized.

    • I agree to carry the Chromebook carefully when moving from class to class in its carrying case. If I am a Jr. High student, I will keep my Chromebook in its case when not in use and during transport to and from school.

    • I will use the Chromebook only in support of my education.

•I will not circumvent any security or restrictions that are in place within the school and its associated network.

•If I find out the bypass password, which is needed sometimes for the successful completion of class work, I will not use it to visit sites not pertinent to the lesson.

    • I will not purchase and/or install any apps/software on my device.

    • I will not access personal online subscriber services. I will not e-mail or chat using these devices, unless a chat is assigned by my classroom teacher as part of the educational program.

    • Chromebooks may not be used to take photos or video of other students or staff without their permission and the supervision of a teaching staff member. The possession, forwarding or uploading of unauthorized photos or video to any website, network storage area, or personal folder is forbidden and may result in disciplinary measures.

    • I am responsible to bring my device to all classes, unless specifically instructed not to do so by a teaching staff member. Chromebooks are not to be taken to lunch, recess, or Physical Education class.

    • I understand that the SSPP will provide service to any device that fails to work properly. If my device is experiencing any issues, I must report it immediately to the classroom teacher.

    • When the Chromebook is not in my direct possession during school hours, I will keep it in my locker. I am responsible for plugging it in daily. If for some reason my device is missing when I go to retrieve it, I must immediately report it as lost/stolen to my teacher, technology coordinator, or principal so that an investigation can be completed and a report filed if needed.

    • I am responsible for any costs associated with the intentional damage or destruction of this device, if witnessed or deemed intentional by the insurance company.

    • I understand that playing games, music, or other entertainment is prohibited at school unless permission is obtained from the teacher for instructional purposes.

    • I will keep the sound on my device turned off/muted unless permission is obtained from the teacher. Student headphones may be used with the Chromebooks in the classroom when permitted by the classroom teacher.

    • I agree to use my Chromebook in conformity with all applicable policies, rules and regulations of the Diocese of Joliet Catholic Schools Office/Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School. Either entity, or both, may examine my device and search its contents if there is a reason to believe that school policies, rules, or regulations have been violated.

    • I will abide by the entire Diocese of Joliet Catholic Schools Office Student Agreement for Internet Access and Related Technology Use and any other procedures established. Additional consequences may be imposed based on this agreement and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School Parent/Student Handbook.

  • ADDITIONAL NOTICE ABOUT RESPONSIBILITY
Your signature (typing of name) on the Chromebook User Agreement (Parent[s]/Guardian and Student[s]) constitutes your acknowledgement that you have read and understand each of the following notices: You alone, not SSPP, are responsible for any intentional damage or destruction to your Chromebook caused by the assigned user. SSPP faculty and/or technology staff will make periodic checks for appropriate use of the Chromebook. If SSPP faculty determines in their sole discretion that the device is not being used in accordance with the above guidelines, use will be revoked. The time period for revocation is at the sole discretion of the Principal. This agreement is in effect during your enrollment within this SSPP program or until it is changed, at which time you will be provided with a new agreement to sign. One agreement can be signed by all members of a family in Grades 3-8.
